BANDUNG, fmipa.itb.ac.id –Community Chemistry Lecture on Friday, March 22, 2024 invited a speaker from Chemistry ITB alumni class of 2004, namely Adit Pradana Jayusman Setyogroho, M.Si., M.S. He currently works as a Regional Application Development and Technical Service Engineer at LyondellBasell, a multinational company in the chemical industry from the United States. He completed his undergraduate program from Chemistry FMIPA ITB in 2008. Then, he continued his master’s degree in Chemistry FMIPA ITB and graduated in 2010. Additionally, he also underwent Double Degree program at the Chemical Engineering Study Program at the University of Twente. After studying, he had a career in several companies focusing on chemistry sector. He has worked at companies such as Halliburton, Dow, and LyondellBasell.
In this lecture, he started by giving an introduction about himself and his various experiences while studying at ITB. Then, he also explained his experiences in the professional world. After studying in university, he worked at Halliburton, a service company based in the United States and focuses on the oil and gas sector. He joined Halliburton in 2011 as a Stimulation Technical Professional. His duty is to increase oil and gas production at the wellsite.
After being at Halliburton for almost 2 years, he joined a company called Dow, one of the well-known companies in the chemical industry from the United States. He worked for eight years from 2013 to 2021. Initially, he joined as an associate of the TS&D organization from the plastic packaging business, which have experienced a long journey of innovation. polyethylene utilizes a series of chemical processes to increase the material value.. Polyethylene is divided into three main classes, namely High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE), and Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE). The process of forming polyethylene utilizes a series of chemical processes to increase the material value. Changes made can be by increasing hardness, flexibility, resilience, reactivity, and so on.
After leaving the Dow industry, he moved to LyondellBasell or what is usually abbreviated as LYB. It is a company based in the United States and the Netherlands, which is the largest licensor of polyethylene and polyethylene technology. He has been working as Regional ADTS Specialist in the polymer business until now. This job deals more with marketing problems and is part of the Sales & Marketing organization. He also explained the process of making polyethylene and its uses in industry. Besides that, he also explained the differences between Spheripol and Spherizone which are part of processing technology.
From this Community Chemistry lecture, students can obtain a lot of insight regarding a functional and economical material, which requires various research and trials first in evaluating the performance of the material before it is commercialized. The results of making this material also have a wide range of uses. However, it must go through several long process stages so that a raw material can be used to become useful ingredients that we often encounter in everyday life. For example, petrochemical materials in the form of oil, gas, and coal can be used as fuel, machine components, electrical components, textiles, furniture, computers, and cosmetics.
