June 26, 2018 @ 8:00 am - September 30, 2018 @ 5:00 pm

Bagikan:

The rapid development of the world of science and technology has brought significant changes to the way humans perceive various problems around them. Until the 21st century, mankind has reached a point of “Information Revolution” which is characterized by various phenomena in everyday life that occur in the form of digital data. This high-speed data revolution that continues to grow each day is certainly a challenge as well as an opportunity for businessmen and community service providers to make decisions based on quantifiable data to provide better service. The ability to translate data into meaningful information is a much-needed skill in this era.

Mathematics is the fruit of mankind’s attempts to articulate with concepts that occur in nature over the past centuries. Various symbols in the Mathematical realm are closely related to definitions, relations, theorems, and equations that create a “vocabulary” that can be used as a cognitive device in understanding the various phenomena that occur. Applied mathematics is an area in mathematics that works by abstracting real-world events into the language of mathematics to identify problems and to set up a strategy of completion. It is in this field particularly that daily occurences in nature, when captured through observational data, can translate into information useful in everyday life.
Mathematical Challenge Festival (MCF) is a biennial event that has been held by the Undergraduate Mathematics Student Association (HIMATIKA ITB) of Bandung Institute of Technology since 2002. Since 2011, ITB’s Undergraduate Mathematics Student Association has cooperated with the Industrial and Financial Mathematics Research Group of the Faculty of Mathematics & Natural Sciences at ITB to create a modeling competition that can solve real problems. This modeling competition was the first of its kind in Indonesia. Now, MCF-MMC 2018 aims to hold this modeling competition on a multinational scale.
Overall, MCF-MMC 2018 consists of seven main activities, namely a multinational modeling competition for university students, a nationwide modeling competition for high school students or the equivalent, essay contest, poster contest, a gala dinner, an exhibition of works, and a seminar. With a total of seven grand events, MCF-MMC ITB 2018 is expected to be the spark igniting the growing exuberance of students nationwide in competing with other countries, specifically in mathematics.
