Getting to Know: Pure and Applied Mathematics
Program Advantages
The Bachelor’s Program in Mathematics at ITB has received the “Excellent” accreditation rating from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT), valid from October 1, 2021, to October 1, 2026.
The program has also obtained international accreditation from ASIIN (Accreditation Agency for Degree Programs in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences, and Mathematics), based in Germany. This accreditation is valid from March 16, 2021, to September 30, 2027.
The Mathematics Undergraduate Program at ITB offers a strong and comprehensive curriculum that encompasses mathematical foundations and major branches, including algebra, analysis, geometry, statistics, and applied mathematics.
Learning System Overview
To support the international class, the curriculum will be aligned with international standards through:
- The use of English as the medium of instruction for all courses in the international class
- Adjustments to syllabi to match curricula of partner universities abroad, particularly in learning outcomes and assessment methods
- The provision of elective courses relevant to global issues and current research developments
- This curriculum retains ITB’s distinctive strength in rigorous theoretical approaches while also expanding space for applied and interdisciplinary collaborations
- 61 faculty members with international experience and strong English proficiency
- Excellent computer laboratory facilities, libraries, and lecture halls
- Innovative learning approaches, such as mathematical modeling and the use of technology in mathematics education

At ITB, Mathematics became more than a set of theories, it shaped how I think. What made the learning experience especially memorable was the way the lecturers taught. They brought abstract ideas to life through illustrations, simulations, and hands-on examples. Their goal was not only for us to score well, but to truly grasp the concepts and apply them confidently, especially in exams and problem-solving settings.
In my 7th semester, I joined an exchange program at INSA Lyon in France, which became one of the highlights of my undergraduate journey. I studied and worked on group projects with international friends and had open discussions with professors in and outside class. Beyond academics, living in France allowed me to experience a different culture through everyday interactions, traveling, and exploring local traditions. Overall, the experience pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way and broadened my perspective both academically and personally.

Studying Mathematics at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) was not merely about mastering formulas, but about cultivating a disciplined way of thinking – systematic, precise, and grounded in rigorous proof. Every theorem traced back to its axioms, every argument required logical soundness, and every conclusion had to withstand scrutiny. Through courses such as Real Analysis, Advanced Linear Algebra, Probability Theory, and Differential Equations, I learned not to memorize results, but to understand the structures behind them. Mathematics became not just a computational tool, but a language for interpreting reality.
This rigorous mindset profoundly shaped my professional journey. With a strong mathematical foundation, I became capable of analyzing economic phenomena and public policy using quantitative models and structured reasoning. Presenting policy analysis at the Presidential Palace before the President and cabinet ministers marked a meaningful milestone – affirming that analytical training rooted in mathematics can contribute to national-level decision making.
Beyond policy analysis, this mindset led me to build an education technology company grounded in structured and data-driven learning systems. The platform has now served more than 3,4 million users, translating mathematical thinking into algorithms, analytics, optimization strategies, and scalable growth models. Mathematics at ITB was demanding, but it forged resilience, clarity under pressure, and the courage to question assumptions – a foundation that continues to shape my work and impact.
